Retour a la Raison Photography is Elvin Knight.
My first camera was a Spiderman point and shoot that used 126mm film. By my senior year in high school, I was the photographer for our newspaper shooting with a Canon AE-1 Program my parents gave me for Christmas. I was hooked!
As with many of us, life got in the way of my creative pursuits. Fortunately I met a model and photographer who inspired me to dust off my gear (Stephanie aka VDB Nudes). Based on Stephanie’s suggestion, I signed up for a natural light workshop in May of 2018. I attended the workshop and was hooked again!
Now I’m moving back into film after shooting digital for the last few years. I’ll always shoot digital, but there’s something special about shooting with film. The Canon died on me earlier this year, but my Leica M6 has taken it’s place. I also bought a Nikon F100, Holga TLR (medium format), and Graflex from 1947 (large format). I’m eager to use them all.
If you’re a model and would like to collaborate or create, let’s shoot! If you haven’t modeled, but want to beef up your social media or book a shoot for your significant other, let shoot! I have several ideas that I hope to bring to life in the coming year. I’m also open to helping others bring their vision to life. After a year of lockdown, it’s time to create!
BTW - I chose Retour a la Raison as pseudonym for a couple of reasons. If you’re a cinephile, paying homage to the 1923 film was an unintended benefit. :)
